The Advanced Nuclear Technology Program
The Advanced Nuclear Technology (ANT) program provides technical products and tools that minimize risks and uncertainties of developing, deploying, and operating advanced nuclear reactors. Research activities evaluate and address the challenges associated with all generational designs, including large light-water reactors, small modular reactors, microreactors, and non-water-cooled reactors. The program also includes research conducted under the Nuclear Beyond Electricity (NBE) initiative. NBE is focused on enabling nuclear plants to participate in additional energy markets, including energy storage, hydrogen production, desalination, industrial uses, and district heating and cooling.
